Freshwater Land Trust’s staff is growing! Three new team members joined our staff about two months ago and are already expanding our organizational capacity and making a big impact. Meet Claire, Rebekah, and Katie!

Claire Speegle
Red Rock Trail System and Development Coordinator

I am from Mobile and have lived in Birmingham for 6 years. I graduated from the College of Charleston in 2015 with degrees in Economics and Sociology.  In May 2022, I graduated from UAB with a Master of Public Health.  I am an avid trail runner and am excited to see the Red Rock Trail system grow!

Rebekah Correia
Outreach and Communications Coordinator

I recently relocated to Birmingham from Montgomery, AL after a long stint in the Capitol City, having formerly managed paddle sport events on the Alabama River for eight years. Undergraduate studies at Huntingdon College led me to a dual degree in Biology and Psychology, but it was my time on the River in Montgomery that developed my sentiments on maintaining the safe use and preservation of these waterways and surrounding natural spaces. In recent years, I immersed myself in volunteer efforts for established organizations in the River Region such as the Alabama Wildlife Federation and Alabama Scenic River Trail, as well as for the burgeoning River Region Trails group. An avid runner and hiker, I’m looking forward to making regular use of the trail system here!

Katie Holmes
Outreach and Communications Coordinator

I relocated to Birmingham from Washington, D.C. in 2019 after attaining a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Maryland. Before joining the Freshwater Land Trust team, I completed a service year as an AmeriCorps member with Black Warrior Riverkeeper. I enjoy exploring Alabama’s natural beauty with a camera in hand, and I am especially enamored with the state’s complex aquatic ecosystems and impressive biodiversity.

Welcome to the team, Claire, Rebekah, and Katie!
