Free Guided Hike: Sunday September 26th at 2pm @ FLT’s Turkey Creek property: Join us for a free guided hike at one of Freshwater Land Trust’s Turkey Creek properties. This event is free and open to the public. Find directions and more details on the Facebook event.

Freshwater Fans Hike: Sunday October 3rd at 2pm @ Wildwood Preserve: Freshwater Fans are invited for an exclusive Fans-only hike at our Wildwood Preserve, guided by our own Sam McCoy. To become a Fan and attend, learn more and join our Freshwater Fans program.

Free Guided Hike: Sunday November 7th at 2pm @ TBA: Join us for a free guided hike on one of FLT’s Red Rock Trails. This event is free and open to the public.

Community Events

These events are not hosted by Freshwater Land Trust.

Shades Creek Cleanup – Saturday, Sep. 25: The is an in-person event with small groups of volunteers that are time staggered for social distancing. Volunteers can choose their job: trash pickup, restoration planting, vine clipping, weed whacking around native seedlings, or other options. Volunteers will meet to pick up supplies at the Homewood Soccer field parking lot just off Greensprings Highway and near Lakeshore Drive. To sign up, complete this form and email it to

Darter Dash – On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Birmingham Ultra Trail Society (BUTS) and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve are teaming up to host the Darter Dash 5k and 10k at the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. A pancake breakfast complete with mimosas to celebrate your morning run will be provided. All proceeds go to fund educational programs at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.
