We are excited to welcome Sam McCoy as our new Land Stewardship Director! In this role, he will manage FLT’s over 7,500 acres of conservation properties, lead projects with high conservation value, including those that benefit endangered species, and work with many partners to best care for land and water in our region.
Sam is originally from Marietta, Ohio. He received a B.S. in Biology from The Ohio State University, then spent two years working for F.T. Stone Laboratory/Ohio Sea Grant where his primary responsibility was assisting with research on Lake Erie water snakes. He earned an M.S. in Biology from Western Carolina University where he studied the movement and habitat selection of two protected species, mountain chorus frogs and bog turtles. Most recently, Sam was a technician with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission where he assisted with conservation of reptiles in the mountains of western North Carolina, especially bog turtles, aquatic turtles, and pine snakes.
