We are proud to announce our new partnership with the Dynamite Hill-Smithfield Community Land Trust (DH-SCLT). The DH-SCLT is the first community organization to volunteer for the Freshwater Land Trust’s Adopt-a-Trail program, a new initiative to support the Red Rock Trail System.

“The Freshwater Land Trust is thrilled to partner with the Dynamite Hill-Smithfield Community Land Trust,” said Carolyn Buck, Red Rock Trail System Director. “We look forward to the projects that will originate from this new partnership!”

The DH-SCLT is adopting the entire 1.07 miles of Enon Ridge Trail. Through the Adopt-a-Trail program, they will perform two hours of trail work every other month for one year. The DH-SCLT is also planning to work with us on beautification and planting projects on the trail.

“This is a historic partnership between Freshwater Land Trust and the Dynamite Hill-Smithfield Community Land Trust,” said Majadi Baruti, DH-SCLT’s Community Engagement Director. “The usage of land for the benefit of creating greenways, walking paths, and improving parks adds to the existing work of our Community Land Trust.”

The DH-SCLT is a service-based community land trust focusing on permanently affordable housing and homeownership opportunities for low and moderate income families, community stewardship programs, sustainable urban agribusiness cooperatives, and community education and resources.

Adopting a trail is a fantastic way to make Birmingham a cleaner, greener, more beautiful place. If your community organization is interested in participating in the Adopt-a-Trail program, learn more here: https://freshwaterlandtrust.org/adopt/
